Michael Harrison is an American composer and pianist known for his unique blend of Western classical and North Indian classical music influences. A former student of notable musicians, he has primarily composed for piano using extended just intonation tunings. In 1986, he designed and created the harmonic piano, an extensively modified grand piano that allows for the alternation between two different tunings, enabling the performance of 24 notes per octave on a conventional keyboard.
