Michael Hedges (December 31, 1953 - December 2, 1997) was a Grammy Award-winning acoustic guitar player and singer-songwriter from Enid, Oklahoma, USA. He was previously married to a flutist. Hedges described his music using various terms such as “violent acoustic,” “heavy mental,” “acoustic thrash,” “new edge,” and “edgy pastoral.” While often classified as a new age artist due to his long association with the genre, his recordings showcased a blend of folk-rock, folk, and new acoustic music, frequently incorporating vocals. Tragically, Hedges died in a car accident at the age of 43. He was posthumously awarded a Grammy Award for Best New Age Album for his 1998 release "Oracle."
