Michel Magne (1930–1984) was a pioneering French composer known for his bold orchestral color and innovative film scores. Classically trained yet adventurous in spirit, he fused symphonic traditions with contemporary sounds, shaping the sonic landscape of postwar French cinema. Magne scored numerous acclaimed films, including *Les Tontons Flingueurs* and *Les Barbouzes*, and collaborated with many leading directors of his time. Renowned for his eclecticism and flair, he also founded the Château d’Hérouville recording studio, which later became a hub for major international artists.
