Michel Redolfi (b. Dec 8, 1951) is a French electroacoustic composer and experimental musician from Marseille, renowned for his concept of 'underwater music.' In 1969, he co-founded the Groupe de musique expérimentale de Marseille. Redolfi moved to the USA in 1973, where he worked as a guest resident at several prominent computer music research centers, including Dartmouth College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He collaborated with notable composers and musicians, such as Daniel R. Harris, and from 1977 to 1984, he conducted pioneering research in liquid environment music broadcasting at UC San Diego, funded by Project WET – Water Electronically Tuned. His debut album, released in France in 1980, featured a stereoscopic cover and included works like Pacific Tubular Waves and his first underwater piece, Immersion. In 1981, Redolfi organized Sonic Waters at San Diego Bay, marking the first subaqueous concert in history. After returning to France, he served as the director of a music institution in Nice from 1987 to 1998 and led the contemporary music festival MANCA.
