Michele Mercure is an American producer and composer born in Springfield, Massachusetts. She moved to Pennsylvania in the late 1970s and currently resides east of Harrisburg. In the early days of MTV, she provided music and sound design for a series of animated intros featuring the MTV logo. During this time, Mercure began performing live and releasing independent cassettes with hand-painted artwork, including works such as "Rouge And Mint" (1983), "A Cast Of Shadows" (1984), "Dreams Without Dreamers" (1985), "Eye Chant" (1986, LP), and "Dreamplay" (1990). Her discovery of cassette culture was facilitated by the Olympia-based OP Magazine, which led her to correspond with other artists. Primarily working with synthesizers, she also plays the guitar and has collaborated with various artists, including The Commonwealth Stage Company. Additionally, she runs a film production company with her partner. Mercure's passion for combining sound and theater was ignited in 1982 when she scored an avant-garde staging of "Waiting For Godot" in Harrisburg, inspiring her to explore the relationship between the aural and visual in her work.
