Mickey & The Soul Generation was a soul and funk group formed in San Antonio, Texas, during the 1960s and 1970s. The band, known for their 1969 hit "Iron Leg," was led by bass player Gilbert Rivera, who also worked as a studio engineer for Manny "Mr G" Guerra. They recorded several singles in the late 60s and early 70s, gaining semi-national attention when Nipsey Russell performed the Iron Leg dance on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." Despite sharing a label with Ben E. King, they struggled with promotion and marketing. The group toured with notable acts such as Sam & Dave, James Brown, Kool & the Gang, and The Supremes, performing for large audiences but often facing hardships, including sleeping on floors. By the mid-70s, the band began to fracture as members pursued various paths, including military service and family life. In 1977, two members, Mickey Foster and George Salas, released a single under the band's name, but it went unnoticed. In the early 2000s, DJ Shadow (Josh Davis) rediscovered Mickey and The Soul Generation, leading to the reissue of their recordings on his Cali-Tex label. The group's lineup included Gilbert Rivera (bass), Andrew Gordon (drums), Johnny Hooks (tenor saxophone), Emil Carter (vocals, saxophone), Charles Johnson (vocals), and Chris Urrutia (drums
