Mickey Gilley was born on March 9, 1936, in Natchez, Mississippi, and passed away on May 7, 2022, in Branson, Missouri. He was a country music singer and pianist, known for his connection to the music industry as a cousin of notable figures and as a father. In 1971, he co-founded Gilley's, a famous nightclub in Houston, with Sherwood Cryer, where he performed frequently. By 1974, Gilley had established himself on the national country charts, amassing nearly 50 recordings by 1989. His nightclub gained significant recognition, particularly after being featured in the 1980 film Urban Cowboy. Notably, 1989 marked both the closure of Gilley's and his last appearance on the charts.
