Mickey Lee Lane was a US musician, songwriter, and producer, born on February 2, 1941, in Rochester, New York. He passed away on March 18, 2011, at Lenox Hill Hospital. Lane was the older brother of several individuals, including one known as . He began his career as a songwriter at the Brill Building in New York during the 1950s, where he worked alongside Neil Sedaka as a touring pianist and Bill Haley as a songwriter. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, he released several singles on Brunswick Records and Swan Records, including the minor hit "Shaggy Dog," which peaked at #38 on the Billboard Hot 100. His song "Hey Sah-Lo-Ney" was covered by a British group and retitled "Hey Sailor." Lane continued his work as a recording engineer from the late 1960s into the 1990s and led the Mickey Lane Orchestra in the 1970s.
