Microdisney originated from a band called Constant Reminders, formed in early 1980 in Cork, Ireland. The initial lineup included future Stump front-man Mick Lynch, along with Cathal Coughlan and Sean O'Hagan. After a brief period of local performances, Mick and bass player Jack Walsh left by June 1980. Guitarist Giordaí Ua Laoghaire and bassist Chris McCarthy joined in July, with drummer Dave Galvin remaining, leading to the renaming of the band to Microdisney. The band made its debut in August 1980, recording a live performance for the 'Kaught At The Kampus' twelve inch, marking one of the early documents of Irish post-punk. Over the next two years, Microdisney recorded demos, a radio session, and songs intended for a seven-inch record, which were later released by Reekus Records on a 30th anniversary retrospective in 2011. One of their radio session tracks appeared on 'Quare Groove Vol 1' by Allchival Records in 2018. During this period, Microdisney became known as Ireland's most prominent 'Punk-Funk' band.
