Midnight Groovers is a musical group that emerged in the early 1970s, originating from Grand Bay. Led by the legendary singer Chubby, the band traveled through Martinique and Guadeloupe, gaining popularity with hits like "Talon haut" and "Anita." Their music addresses everyday life, highlighting issues such as violence, social and economic inequalities, injustice, police brutality, and slavery, while promoting cultural awareness and Caribbean pride. A significant event in their history was the 1975 song "Pou yon coco," which denounced the degrading treatment of poor citizens by authorities. Chubby faced severe and unjust punishment for picking coconuts from the estate of a wealthy businessman.
