Midnite Groovers was a musical group that toured Martinique and Guadeloupe in the early 1970s, known for hits like "Talon haut" and "Anita." Hailing from Grand Bay and led by the legendary singer Chubby, the band addressed themes such as violence, social and economic inequalities, injustice, police brutality, and slavery. Their music highlighted cultural awareness and Caribbean pride. A significant event in their history was the release of the song "Pou yon coco," which reflected the harsh treatment of poor citizens by authorities in 1975. Chubby faced severe and unjust punishment for picking coconuts from the estate of a wealthy businessman.
