The Mighty Avengers were a rugby, Warwickshire, UK-based quartet formed in 1964. They fell under the management of the Rolling Stones' manager and secured a recording contract with England's Decca Records. The band consisted of Tony Campbell on lead guitar and vocals, Mike Linnell on bass and lead vocals, Tony Machon on rhythm guitar and harmonica, and Biffo Beech on drums. Over two years, they released four singles, primarily covering songs by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, with only "(Walkin' Thru The) Sleepy City" and "So Much in Love" making a significant impact. Their final single featured a notable B-side titled "Sir Edward and Lady Jane," which cleverly referenced both the founder of Decca and a Jagger/Richards song. In 1966, Tony Campbell left the group to join ex-Pinkerton's Assorted Colours bassist Barrie Bernard, keyboardist Clive Scott, and drummer Des Dyer to form a new band, which enjoyed a long and successful career in England.
