Miharu Koshi is a keyboardist and singer born on January 3, 1960, in Tokyo. She has a long-standing collaborative association with the founder of YMO and has written and performed in various genres, including chanson, technopop, classical pieces, vocal jazz, and soundtracks. Koshi comes from a musical family; her father was a bassoon player, and her mother was a classical vocalist. She received an education in classical music and ballet. Her career took off after she won the TV talent show "君こそスターだ!" ("You Are The Star!") in October 1978, which led to a recording contract with RCA. In her early works, her name was written in kanji as 越美晴, but since 1989, it has appeared in katakana as コシミハル, although both are pronounced the same way: Koshi Miharu. She intentionally sought to "de-idolise" her image after meeting and collaborating with others in the industry.
