Mike And The Censations was a US doo-wop influenced soul group formed in the mid-1960s, led by Mike along with his brother Robert and their sister and her husband. Originally from Mississippi, they were part of a local gospel act called the Seven Seals, which included Mike's two brothers, Walter and Robert. The group moved to Los Angeles around 1956. In the winter of 1965, after a bet with his brother Robert that they could produce a record as good as any Motown release, Mike & the Censations recorded their first official release, “Victim Of Circumstance.” This self-released record on Robert's Bryan Records label made it into the top 50 of the R&B Charts.
