Mike & The Censations were a US doo-wop influenced soul group formed in the mid-1960s, led by Mike, along with his brother Robert and their sister and her husband. Originally from Mississippi, they were part of a local gospel act called the Seven Seals, which included Mike's two brothers, Walter and Robert. The group relocated to Los Angeles around 1956. In the winter of 1965, after a bet with Robert that they could produce a record as good as any Motown release, Mike & The Censations recorded their first official release, "Victim Of Circumstance." This self-released record on Robert's Bryan Records label achieved notable success, making it into the top 50 of the R&B Charts.
