Mike Dorane, born in Jamaica, spent his early childhood in the United States before moving to London at the age of eight. By his teenage years, he had already established himself as an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, focusing on soul and funk, influences that can still be heard in his later productions. In the early 1970s, he transitioned into the world of reggae as a session musician for Pama Records. In the mid-1970s, Dorane began producing his own music and secured a distribution deal with Island Records for his two labels, which unfortunately were only operational for a year in 1976. After this venture into the record business, he returned to a more behind-the-scenes role as a session musician, producer, and engineer, often operating under the name 'Mike Dan,' and continued to produce remarkable records.
