Mike Nyoni (1947 - May 7, 1991) was a Zambian singer and guitarist known for his contributions to the Zamrock music scene in the 1970s and 80s. Born in Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) to a Zambian migrant family, he returned to Zambia during the Rhodesian War in the early 1970s. Nyoni became the lead singer and songwriter for the Zamrock band Born Free, contributing to their 1975 soul/funk album before embarking on a solo career. As a solo artist, he released two albums that blended soul/funk with Zamrock melodies. Following the decline of Zamrock by 1980, he transitioned to Kalindula music. Despite facing economic hardships in the 1980s that limited his ability to be a full-time musician, he continued to produce numerous singles throughout the decade. Nyoni passed away from malaria in 1991.
