Mikey Dread, born on June 4, 1954, in Port Antonio, Jamaica, was a renowned radio disc jockey, studio engineer, singer, and producer. He began his journey in music at the age of 12 by building amplifiers and repairing radios. After studying electronics in Jamaica and the USA, he joined the "Safari" sound system, where he focused on repairing amps and turntables. In 1976, he became a key figure at the Jamaican Broadcasting Corporation (JBC), one of Kingston's major radio stations, where he took over the show "Dread at the Control" from midnight to 4 am, exclusively playing reggae music until 1979, which earned him fame in Jamaica. Mikey Dread started recording songs in 1978 and founded his own label, DATC, named after his radio show, releasing his first album in 1979. He gained significant popularity in England, particularly among the Punk crowd, collaborating with the band The Clash, producing the single "Bankrobber," and mixing dub versions for their albums "Black Market Clash" and "Sandinista!" while touring with them in 1980. Throughout the 1980s, he was highly productive in England and continued to participate in various projects during the 1990s and 2000s.
