Mikis Theodorakis was a Greek songwriter, composer, author, and politician, born on July 29, 1925, in Chios. He passed away in Athens on September 2, 2021. Theodorakis wrote over 1,000 songs, including the music for the film "Zorba the Greek" (1964), with the instrumental "Zorba's Dance" becoming renowned worldwide. He also scored the films "Z" (1969), for which he received a BAFTA Film Award in 1970, and "Serpico" (1973). His composition "Mauthausen Trilogy," also known as "The Ballad of Mauthausen," has been described as the "most beautiful musical work ever written about the Holocaust." In 1960, he founded the Little Orchestra of Athens and was awarded the Lenin Peace Prize in 1983. He was the father of two children, the older brother of several siblings, and the uncle of Yannis' daughter.
