Mikkel Metal, born Mikkel Meldgaard in 1973, is a Copenhagen-based musician and educator. He completed a degree in Philosophy at the University of Copenhagen in 2001 and currently teaches an e-concept-development program at KEA while pursuing his music career. Mikkel's musical journey began in the early nineties as a guitarist, influenced by the introspective sounds of the British shoegazer scene and the lo-fi aesthetics of American slacker bands. He played in various bands and honed his skills as a guitarist. By the mid-nineties, he shifted his focus to electronic music, acquiring a sampler and initially exploring breakbeat and melodic styles. Over time, his sound evolved, drawing inspiration from dub, techno, and click sensibilities, while still retaining elements of indierock. His career took off in 2000 with the release of a 7-inch on Hal9000, which topped de:bug magazine's monthly chart. This was followed by an appearance on the net label datamusik and a series of 12" releases on the Danish label Echocord. Mikkel continued to develop his sound and began releasing music through the German label Kompakt, producing three 12-inch records that showcased a blend of click aesthetics and dub influences, ranging from shuffle techno to slow melodic 4/4 tracks. By around 2010, his work began to reflect a Detroit-inspired sound, as exemplified by his "pamon 403" EP
