Milton Babbitt was an American composer born on May 10, 1916, in Philadelphia. He passed away on January 29, 2011. Babbitt was particularly noted for his contributions to serial and electronic music and was one of the foremost contributors to the principal center for tape and electronic music in the United States. His main electronic works include "Vision and Prayer," "Philomel" (for voice and tape), "Sounds and Words," "Phonemena" (for soprano and piano or tape), "Composition for Synthesizer," and "Ensembles for Synthesizer."
