Milton Hamilton is a Latin/Jazz/Funk pianist and music teacher at the Third Street Music School Settlement. He co-founded the group Yambú with Nuyorican bassist Ramón Rodríguez. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1975, featured a unique blend of Latin, soul, jazz, rock, and disco. The A side included a version of Bobby Hebb’s “Sunny,” updated in a "Hustle" style by Hamilton, while the B side showcased his original composition "Hippopotamus," which is sought after by beat junkies for its massive break. The success of "Sunny" in clubs and on the radio led to its licensing by RCA France, prompting label boss Jesse Moskowitz to produce one of the first 12-inch versions to meet DJ demand for higher fidelity and volume. In 1976, Milton formed his solo group, Milton Hamilton Crystalized, and released the album Disco Madness, which featured the hit “My Love Supreme” and covers of “Poinciana” and “Theme from Mahogany.” “My Love Supreme” quickly climbed the Billboard disco charts, and an extremely rare promo 12” DJ copy of the full 5.10-minute version exists.
