Ministry is a musical project founded by Al Jourgensen in 1981, initially playing synth-pop with a strong disco influence. They released their first 12" before being signed to a label and releasing their debut album, "With Sympathy," in 1983. After a falling out with the label and the project's direction, Jourgensen returned to release a series of 12" singles, including "Everyday Is Halloween," which became an instant club favorite and one of the band's most popular songs. In 1985, Jourgensen signed to another label, and Ministry's second album, "Twitch," was produced, showcasing a more menacing sound that reflected Jourgensen's interest in the EBM (electronic body music) scene. Their third album, "The Land of Rape and Honey" (1988), marked a natural evolution of their sound, moving away from previous pop tendencies. With new members, Ministry's sound developed into a crossover of EBM, industrial, and heavy metal, continuing with "The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste" (1989), where guitar became more prominent. Ministry's breakthrough album, "Psalm 69" (1992), was dark and powerful, pushing further into thrash metal while retaining elements of industrial music. The following records, "Filth Pig" (1996) and "Dark Side of the Spoon" (1999), showcased a more straightforward heavy metal sound but had lower sales.
