Misha Alperin was a Ukrainian pianist born in 1956 in Kamjanez-Podilskyj, Ukraine. He grew up in Moldavia and studied classical piano. In 1980, he co-founded the first Moldavian jazz quartet with Simon Shirman, combining jazz with folk influences. Alperin gained significant recognition as an ethno-jazz musician in Moscow, where he collaborated with renowned French horn player Arkady Shilkloper and integrated traditional Russian singer Sergei Starostin into their duo, which became known as the famous Moscow Art Trio. In 1993, Alperin moved to Norway, where he toured globally with the Moscow Art Trio and the renowned Bulgarian Choir Angelite, recording for European labels such as ECM, Jaro, and Boheme Music. He passed away on May 11, 2018, in Oslo, Norway.
