Missy Elliott, born Melissa Arnette Elliott on July 1, 1971, in Portsmouth, Virginia, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. She is professionally known as Missy Elliott or Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott. In 1997, she founded her own label and is known for her frequent collaborations with other artists.
