Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels was a rock and soul band formed in 1964 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. They served as Mitch Ryder's backup band until 1967 when Ryder pursued a solo career. After Ryder's departure, the band recorded a few singles before dissolving. Two former members later reunited to form a new band, with one of them finding fame in a hard rock outfit. In 1969, Ryder and other musicians established a new band called The Band Detroit, also known as The Detroit Wheels, which released an album in 1971. Ryder's musical success declined after the early 1970s. In 2005, Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels were inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame, and in 2009, Mitch Ryder was inducted as a solo artist.
