Moacir Santos (July 26, 1926 – August 6, 2006) was a Brazilian composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist renowned for his innovative contributions to Brazilian jazz and MPB (Música Popular Brasileira). Born in Flores, Pernambuco, Brazil, he blended Afro-Brazilian rhythms with sophisticated harmonies and orchestration, creating a unique sound that influenced both Brazilian and international jazz musicians. His groundbreaking album "Coisas" (1965) showcases his mastery of complex arrangements and rich melodic structures. After relocating to the United States in the 1960s, Santos worked as a film composer and collaborated with artists such as Sérgio Mendes. He remains a highly respected figure in Brazilian music, with his work continuing to inspire new generations. He should not be confused with another Brazilian composer of folk music.
