Modaji, born Dominic Jacobson on 17 December 1972, was a British electronic DJ, producer, and remixer known for his significant contributions to the west London broken beat scene. He passed away on 19 April 2019 in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, England, at the age of 46. While studying at Exeter University in the mid-1990s, Modaji was actively DJ-ing and worked at the influential record shop and label, Records, in Exeter, which closed in 1995 when the label relocated to London. He was a member of a crew that produced broken beat tracks and later transitioned into deep jazz-inflected house music, using both the Modaji name and another alias.
