MOEV is a synth-pop band based in Vancouver, Canada, founded in 1981 by two members who played keyboards and percussion, and keyboards and vocals. They were later joined by a vocalist and a guitarist within the same year. The band's debut album was released in 1982. After their first label, a San Francisco-based company, went bankrupt in early 1983, a band member and their manager established a new label in early 1984 to release MOEV material. Following the departure of the singer, a temporary vocalist filled in, and another vocalist was recruited for the 1984 singles. In January 1985, a new vocalist joined in collaboration with Cal. After signing with a New York label in September 1985, they released a new album. At this point, one member left to focus on managerial duties, another returned to school, and a third departed as well. A new lineup for MOEV emerged, featuring a new bassist, drummer, vocalist, and briefly, a keyboardist and percussionist. This lineup produced two successful 12" singles and was signed by a new label for their next album. In early 1990, MOEV began recording their third album with a producer, featuring background vocals from another artist. The release of a compilation album in 1991 seemed to mark the end of the band, especially after the singer passed away in 1994 following a lengthy illness.
