Mohammad Reza Mortazavi, born in Isfahan, Iran in 1978, is a renowned Tombak player who began his musical journey at the age of 6. By the age of 9, he had quickly surpassed his teacher's instruction and won the annual Iranian Tombak competition, a feat he accomplished seven times over the years. By 20, he was regarded as one of the world's best Tombak players, having developed over 30 new striking and finger techniques that revolutionized traditional playing methods. Mortazavi first performed in Germany at 22, achieving great success in Munich. He has released several CDs and has been invited to perform at numerous concerts across Europe, captivating audiences with his talent. In 2003, he received the German World Music Award RUTH in the newcomers’ category. His notable achievements include a solo concert at the Philharmonie in Berlin in 2010. In 2010, he collaborated with flowfish.music, releasing the solo CD "GREEN HANDS" and the DVD "Live at the Berlin Philharmonie." The following year, he showcased his music at WOMEX 11 in Copenhagen. His solo tour for the album "CODEX" began in 2013, featuring nearly 100 concerts worldwide, including performances at the World Music Festival in Shanghai and the Fusion Festival in Germany. He sold out the Samaritan Church in Berlin for his final concert in 2015. Mortazavi also initiated a regular acoustic event in Berlin
