Mojave 3 emerged from the remnants of the shoegazer band that was dropped by Creation Records in 1995 due to unsatisfactory sales. Shortly after, members Neil Halstead (vocals and guitar), Rachel Goswell (vocals), and Ian McCutcheon (drums and percussion) began recording demos, which caught the attention of 4AD founder Ivo Watts-Russell, leading to their signing. They initially recorded their debut album, "Ask Me Tomorrow," under the name "Mojave." However, upon discovering a US band with the same name, they quickly changed it to "Mojave 3." The album was released in November 1995, accompanied by a promotional tour. The record featured contributions from Christopher Andrews on piano, Simon Rowe on lead guitar, and Audrey Riley on cello. Following extensive touring across the UK, Europe, and the USA, the band recorded their second LP, with the singles "Who Do You Love" and "Some Kinda Angel" released in 1998. The album, "Out Of Tune," followed in October of that year. They also contributed to the soundtrack of "A Walk On The Moon," with a cover of Love's "No Matter What You Do" included on the CD.
