Monguito Santamaria is a talented piano player who grew up in 1950s New York. As the son of an Afro-Cuban conga player, he was immersed in Latin music from an early age, particularly influenced by Tito Puente's Orchestra, where his father performed. In the late 1960s, Santamaria recorded a series of LPs in a Latin Soul style for Fania Records.
