Monica Zetterlund, born Eva Monica Nilsson on September 20, 1937, in Hagfors, Sweden, was a renowned Swedish jazz and pop singer, revue performer, and actor. She began her career in her teens with her father's orchestra in Hagfors and made her debut as a guest with Ib Glindemann's big band in 1957. This opportunity led her to Copenhagen, where she recorded her first disc in 1958 under the pseudonym Eva Norén. In 1958, she moved to Stockholm and performed with Arne Domnéru's band at Nalen. By 1960, she toured the United States and recorded an LP with trumpeter Thad Jones and tenor saxophonist Zoot Sims, which was not released until 1996. Zetterlund is best known for her collaboration with Bill Evans' trio on the album "Waltz for Debby," recorded in Stockholm in 1964, which is considered her finest work. Her attention to lyrical content distinguished her from many jazz singers, allowing her to explore hymns and popular music. Notable songs from her repertoire include Povel Ramel's "Den sista jäntan" in 1966 and Olle Adolphson's "Trouble" in 1969, as well as the pop song "Gröna små applen."
