Monie Love, born Simone Wilson (also known as Simone Gooden) on July 2, 1970, in London, is a notable English rapper and former radio personality in the United States. She gained respect in British hip hop and made a significant impact on American hip hop audiences as a protégé of a prominent female American rapper and as a member of the Native Tongues Posse in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Love was among the first BritHop artists to be signed and distributed worldwide by a major record label. She is also the sister of [names omitted]. Her debut album, "Down To Earth," reached #26 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and featured two Grammy-nominated hits: "Monie in the Middle," which addresses a woman's right to define her relationships, and "It's a Shame (My Sister)," which samples The Spinners' "It's a Shame."
