Monkey Mafia is the production project of Essex-born DJ Jon Carter, known for their big-beat "Brit-hop-amyl-house" sound, which draws comparisons to the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, and artists linked to the Skint and Wall of Sound labels. The project began in 1995, following a series of tracks for Wall of Sound under the name Artery and coinciding with Carter's residency at various clubs. When performing live, they were accompanied by an MC and DJ.
