Mono Junk, whose real name is Kimmo Rapatti, is a pioneering figure in the realm of minimalistic raw techno. He founded Dum Records in 1992, providing a platform for his innovative contributions to the genre. Alongside Sahko, Dum Records was among the first techno labels in Finland, a region known for its high-quality music scene. Mono Junk's music is characterized as 'raw analog minimal icy dark techno,' reflecting the influence of Finland's seemingly endless winters. As a dedicated pioneer, Kimmo has produced many renowned classics, with his track “Melody Boy 2000 - Monotonous Fantastique” being hailed by experts as one of the best Finnish techno tracks ever created. Notably, he has never utilized software programs in his productions, earning him the nickname "Analogue Junkie." After a brief hiatus, Mono Junk has returned to the music scene, making significant appearances on labels such as Forbidden Planet and Skudge Records, while also focusing on his live performances. His signature sound features a deep, dense mix with noticeable influences from Detroit and Chicago.
