The Monochrome Set is a band that formed in London, UK, in 1978, becoming influential in the post-punk scene that emerged after the initial wave of punk. They initially released music on a specific label but signed with Virgin's offshoot for their debut album. The band also released several albums on another label and appeared on that label's compilation. After disbanding in 1985, The Monochrome Set reunited multiple times over the next decade for live performances and studio recordings, bringing their album count into the double figures. After a hiatus of over ten years, they reformed full-time in 2010 and have since toured extensively across the UK, Europe, Japan, and the USA, while also releasing new studio albums. Currently, they are signed to a German label. In 2018, they celebrated their 40th anniversary with worldwide gigs and the release of a box set compilation of their work up until 1985. More recently, in 2020, they released a compilation box set of their output from the 1990-1995 period.
