Monsta Island Czars is a New York City hip-hop collective formed in 1993, featuring a diverse group of artists including producer/rapper X-Ray and various other NYC MCs. The collective is named after "Monsta Island," which stands for Many Other Nations Striving Towards Awareness In Self Love And New Developments. This mythical island is said to have split into seven separate land masses, each inhabited by talented artists such as MCs, DJs, producers, vocalists, graffiti writers, and break dancers, collectively known as M.I.C. (Monsta Island Czars). The members of this collective are described as masters of their own realms, operating without a hierarchy or leader/follower system. Their influences range from ancient spiritual civilizations to the magnetic waves generated by computers manipulated by extraterrestrial beings. The collective includes an android with the ability to reach heights from 1.8 to 50 meters and a three-headed dragon weighing 70,000 tons, capable of speeds up to mach-4. The exact number of members remains unknown as new "monsters" seem to appear over time. While they occasionally battle amongst themselves, they share a common enemy: Leviathan the dragon, a cunning creature that sometimes allies with humans and at other times seeks to destroy them.
