Mophono, born in 1976 in the Bay Area, is a pioneering figure in electronic music. From a young age, he demonstrated a strong passion for science, math, and music, ultimately dedicating himself to the world of electronic music. Under the alias DJ Centipede, he aimed to demystify electronic music, advocating for its accessibility and fun nature. This vision led to the creation of Circuit Studios in Lower Haight, San Francisco, where he explored experimental genres like Thug Jazz and Dirt Wave. As electronic and sample-based music evolved in the 1990s, so did Mophono's career, becoming one of the most successful experimental electronic dance music DJs in the Bay Area. His momentum was interrupted in April 1998 when a warehouse dance floor collapsed during one of his performances, marking the end of an era. He then shifted his focus to the burgeoning Bay Area beat scene, honing his production and beat juggling skills while promoting innovative events in San Francisco. Mophono has released two full-length albums and numerous singles, contributing to the emergence of the genres Thug Jazz and Dirt Wave, as well as establishing a new standard in the record industry known as Skip on Beat. Drawing inspiration from 60s psychedelic and experimental electronic music, he is recognized for his powerful drum breaks and orchestral instrumental compositions. With his legendary "Change the Beat" party in San Francisco, Mophono is deeply embedded in the beat culture. He has performed live on Boiler
