Morrissey is a British singer and songwriter born on May 22, 1959, in Manchester, UK. He is best known as the former lead singer and co-founder of The Smiths. Morrissey began his music career in the late 1970s as the lead singer for punk bands, forming Sulky Young (later renamed The Tee Shirts) and briefly pairing with another artist for live performances. In 1982, he and guitarist Johnny Marr formed The Smiths, with Morrissey remaining in the band until he left in late 1987. He debuted as a solo artist in 1988.
