Mort Garson was a Canadian composer, bandleader, and songwriter, born on July 20, 1924, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. He passed away on January 4, 2008, in San Francisco, California, USA. A classically trained musician and electronic researcher, Garson began his career in the 1960s and was among the first to experiment with the Moog synthesizer. He gained recognition for his original sci-fi space age soundscapes. His first album, recorded in 1967, featured sonic analog-based compositions, while his 1969 release showcased supernatural electronic moods, pulsating hypnotic effects, and moving synthesized textures. Garson's musical universe is comparable to kitsch Moog pop soundscapes but with more mystical, cerebral, and adventurous proportions. His 1971 album is considered his most progressive work, featuring lysergic electronic modulations and dark epic timbres. He is regarded as one of the most notable Canadian space electronic artists.
