Mos Def, born Dante "Beze" Terrell Smith on December 11, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York, is a Brooklyn-based rapper of Trinidadian descent who is also pursuing a career in Hollywood as an actor. He first gained interest as part of a group with his younger brother and sister and has collaborated with many respected artists across various genres, notably as part of a group with others. He is also known as Yasiin Bey, a name he adopted after handing over his old name, Mos Def, to TV pundit Stephen Colbert following an appearance on "The Colbert Report." Mos Def is a father.
