Moses Smith is a soul artist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who gained prominence in the 1960s and 1970s. He began his singing career at the age of 13 and won a singing contest at The Uptown Theatre in Philadelphia, which led to his signing by Gilda Woods, the wife of local radio DJ Georgie Woods, to her Dionn label. Smith released his first record in 1968 on Dionn and followed up with another release on Cotillion in 1970. Both records have become sought after in the UK Northern Soul scene. In 2002, a previously unreleased track titled "Try My Love," recorded during the same session as "The Girl Across The Street," was included in the compilation CD "The Northern Side Of Philly Soul" on Jamie Records. This track was also released on 7" vinyl in 2002, featuring "The Girl Across The Street" on the flip side. Little else is known about Moses Smith's career and life.
