MPB-4, short for Música Popular Brasileira 4, is a vocal and instrumental Brazilian group formed in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, in 1965. Active since their inception, they are known for their contributions to sung samba and MPB, and are regarded as one of the best vocal interpretation groups in Brazil. The original lineup consisted of Miltinho (Milton Lima dos Santos Filho), Magro (Antônio José Waghabi Filho), Achilles (Achille Rique Reis), and Ruy Faria (Ruy Alexandre Faria). Initially called Quarteto do CPC (Centro Popular de Cultura), they adopted the name MPB-4 following the CPC's dissolution after the 1964 Brazilian coup d'état. In 2001, MPB-4 celebrated a 36-year career with the same formation, a feat recognized in the Brazilian edition of the Guinness Book of Records. In 2004, Ruy Faria left the group and was succeeded by Dalmo Medeiros. After the passing of Magro in 2012, Paulo Malaguti Pauleira joined as a singer, composer, and arranger.
