Mr. Scruff, born Andrew Carthy on 10 February 1972 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, is a British DJ, producer, and artist. He resides in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and studied fine art at Sheffield Hallam University. Before pursuing music full-time, he worked as a shelf-stacker at Kwik Save. His DJ name reflects his scruffy facial hair and distinctive loose-lined drawing style. Since starting his DJ career in 1994, he has performed in Manchester and internationally, known for his marathon sets that often exceed six hours. He is recognized for his eclectic musical taste, love of tea, and the quirky visuals and animations that accompany his music. In an interview, Carthy expressed his commitment to detail and risk-taking in his work, stating, "It’s about putting a lot of effort in and paying attention to detail. I get annoyed if I don’t take risks. I’m very hard on myself."
