Mr. Scruff, born Andy Carthy on February 10, 1972, in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, is a British DJ, producer, and artist. He resides in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and studied fine art at Sheffield Hallam University's Psalter Lane campus. Before fully dedicating himself to music, he worked as a shelf-stacker at Kwik Save. His DJ name reflects both his scruffy facial hair and his distinctive loose-lined drawing style. Since beginning his DJ career in 1994, Mr. Scruff has performed nationally and internationally, gaining a reputation for his marathon sets that often exceed six hours. He is known for his eclectic musical taste, his fondness for a "nice cup of tea," and the quirky visuals and animations he creates to accompany his music. In an interview, he emphasized the importance of effort and attention to detail in his work, stating, "It’s about putting a lot of effort in and paying attention to detail. I get annoyed if I don’t take risks. I’m very hard on myself."
