Musafir is a world-class ensemble of musicians founded in 1995 in France by tabla player Hameed Khan. The group is known for its captivating music that blends elaborate rhythms, electrifying Muslim qawwali chant, North Indian raga, and the passionate songs and devotional dances rooted in gypsy culture. Composed of professional musicians from the Thar desert in northwest Rajasthan, Musafir includes members of the Langa, Manghaniyar, and Sapera communities. In 2000, many key members of the group left to form another band called 'Maharaja'.
