Muyei Power, also known as Orchestre Muyei (with "muyei" meaning 'our country'), was one of the leading dance bands in Sierra Leone during the 1970s. The band skillfully blended electric Congolese and Nigerian music with uptempo variations of traditional Sierra Leonean beats, creating a unique sound that few could emulate. After spending the early part of the decade performing in Sierra Leone and neighboring countries such as Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire, Muyei Power took their music to an international audience. However, the band disbanded in 1979 without officially releasing an album, leaving behind only a handful of singles that were last released over 30 years ago.
