My Dad Is Dead was formed by Mark Edwards in 1985 after he had a stint drumming in another band. While it primarily served as a solo project for Edwards, a small rotating cast of musicians joined him for live performances and some recordings. Notably, a key collaborator was involved in recording and producing most of My Dad Is Dead's output until around 1993. After the release of an album in 2009, Edwards gradually wound down the My Dad Is Dead project, culminating in a farewell performance in 2011. The following year, he released the debut album of his new band.
