My Jealous God was a British Indie music band hailing from South London, active from 1989 to 1992. The band was founded and led by vocalist Jim Melly, alongside members Danny Burke on lead guitar, Chris O'Donnell on bass, and Andrew Berkeley on drums. They initially signed with Rough Trade Records and later moved to Fontana Records. Throughout their career, My Jealous God released three singles: "Everything About You" in July 1990, "Pray" in October 1990, and "Easy" in February 1992. They made several live appearances but did not release a full album, although they did record one that was ultimately shelved due to the band's disbandment. A fourth single, a re-recorded version of "Pray" with new lyrics, was pressed in April 1992 but later withdrawn, though some copies have surfaced. The band also released a video for the original version of "Pray." Despite their efforts, My Jealous God faced criticism for their London-based identity and their music's resemblance to the 'Madchester' scene of the time. After the band's dissolution, Jim Melly transitioned into academia, becoming a Professor of Popular Culture and writing a history of The Faces pop group, which received unfavorable reviews.
